Below are the guidelines and procedures for working with SJI Service Scholarship volunteers:

  • Students cannot be paid, compensated or receive credit for any class or other organization to be eligible to earn qualifying SJI Service Scholarship hours.
  • Plays, concerts, yearbook, Pony Club, 4-H, dancing, and other school club and performance activities are not eligible for volunteer hours.
  • Students must have an adult supervisor present when volunteering.
  • The student must be working for an accredited non-profit organization ( *.org status) or the activity must be pre-approved by the SJI Service Scholarship Board of Directors.
  • Volunteering opportunities must benefit the goal of the non-profit organization and take place on San Juan Island.
  • Students will need an adult or supervisor (not their parent or close relative) to verify the hours once they have completed their volunteer work.
  • No more than 8 hours credit are allowed in any 24-hour period.
  • Each day or event must be logged separately and verified on MobileServe by the adult who supervised the activity.
