Community Event Board

We are excited to launch our new user-friendly app to serve our students and community organizations. MobileServe is the name of our 3rd party volunteer app provider. If a student has an account prior to July 2023 be sure to check the student’s email account for a link to claim their account from MobileServe. If a student is new to the SJI Service Scholarship program click here to register.

Announcements from Community Partners

Students will need to keep an eye out on the MobileServe app and their email account for volunteer announcements from local non-profits and pre-approved community organizations. Sign up with a friend, make it fun and maybe learn a new skill! Once the volunteer hours are completed have the adult supervisor (not a family member) sign off/ validate the time worked on the app.

Generating your own volunteer opportunity

Yes! Students can generate their own volunteer opportunity. All of the organizations listed here (link to Approved Non-profit and community organizations list) may have events or projects that are not announced via the app. Take the initiative and see how they may be helped throughout the year. If unsure the event or project does qualify for volunteer hours just ask your school counselor of email info@sjiservicescholarship in advance of the activity date.

Program Guidelines

  • The following activities do not qualify for volunteer hours:
    1. If a student receives any monetary payment for tasks completed
    2. Any activity in which the student receives class credit. These may include: Spring Street International School community service, FHHS community service class assignment, 4-H club service requirements.
    3. Plays, concerts, band, yearbook, Pony Club, dancing and other school club and performance activities
  • Fundraising events for individuals or families must be associated with an organization holding non-profit status. Please check with the SJI Service Scholarship Board or school counselor BEFORE the event with any eligibility questions.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 80 volunteer hours by the time they graduate, 3 of the 80 hours must be dedicated to helping the SJI Service Scholarship program, and the student must volunteer for at least 3 different community organizations.
  • Volunteer hours are only eligible if the tasks completed take place on San Juan Island.
  • No more than 8 volunteer hours are allowed in a 24-hour period. NOTE: when attending conferences or multi-day events only those hours that are directly involved in volunteering should be logged on the app. Conferences must be associated with, or sponsored by an approved non-profit organization. Travel, lunch and breaks do not count as a volunteer activity. If the conference did not require actual participation, but was a listen & learn event, students may log no more than 8 hours of volunteer time for the entire event regardless of the number of days the conference takes place. The SJI Service Scholarship program typically acknowledges only one “conference” related volunteer event during the student’s 8-12th grade career.
